Artists! Authors! Musicians!
Build your creative confidence, overcome fear that’s holding you back, fuel your passion, and create with purpose.
Are you fed up with…
Listening to the negative voices in your head?
Worrying about what others think of you and your work?
Feeling anxious or even down?
Struggling with confidence?
Feeling worse and worse about your creative pursuits?
Holding back and not getting your work out there?
Entertaining ideas about giving up being an artist, an author, or a musician?
Even feeling a tad resentful of successful creators?
There is Hope.
But You've Probably Been Given the Wrong Advice
Creative people are often told, “Just keep going—just write more, paint more, play more—and the confidence will come.”
It’s well-meaning advice. And yes, doing the work helps you improve your craft.
But when it comes to building confidence and reducing anxiety, that advice falls short.
Because confidence isn’t just about doing more—it’s about doing the right inner AND outer work.
You need specific tools and practices designed to help you face fear, manage your mind, and break free from the patterns that keep you stuck.
When you learn these essential skills, everything changes. You can stop white-knuckling your way through fear and start showing up as the confident, creative, and productive person you know you’re meant to be.
The Three Shadows Behind Your Worry
What’s really holding you back?
If you’re not reaching the level of success you know you’re capable of, it might not be about your skill or talent. It’s not just about your technique—it's about what’s happening inside your mind.
Creative anxiety and a lack of artistic confidence are often the real barriers—and the good news is, these are things you can take control of.
You might be caught in the grip of what I call The Three Shadows:
The Imposter – This shadow whispers, “You’re a fraud.” It downplays your hard-earned accomplishments, chalks them up to luck, and turns praise into pity. Even when others see your brilliance, The Imposter makes you question if you belong at all.
Fear of Fear – This is anxiety about anxiety itself. It creates a looping trap: you fear the feeling of fear, so you avoid situations that might trigger it—which only gives the fear more power. It’s a cycle that can keep you small, stuck, and silent.
The Trickster – The most cunning shadow of all. The Trickster disguises itself as protection. It tells you, “Let’s just wait until you're really ready.” It nudges you toward perfectionism, procrastination, and distraction—all under the false promise of safety.
Creativity Thrives on Action: So Does the Shift to Confidence
Art - whether it’s visual, written, or musical - doesn’t come to life through talking or overthinking.
And neither does confidence.
If you want to grow as a creator and feel more confident doing it, you have to take action. Because action is what builds courage. Action is how you develop strength, resilience, and mastery over anxiety.
Confidence doesn’t magically appear. It’s built through a cycle. You learn the right tools, you practice them consistently, you weave those new habits into your creative life—and then you feel the shift.
Then the new shift to confidence becomes part of who you are.
It’s simple. But it’s not easy to do alone.
That’s why even the most successful people have coaches, mentors, and teachers.
The Courageous Creator is a program designed to help you stop spinning your wheels and start moving forward. You'll learn real, evidence-based tools to manage anxiety, grow your confidence, and stay committed to your creative path.
And you won’t be doing it in a vacuum. You’ll have group coaching led by someone who’s been in the trenches—who understands the fear and self-doubt, and knows how to help you move through it.
Because the world needs your creativity—and you deserve to feel good sharing it.
“You need both the skills of confidence and technical competence to be a courageous creator. Only developing one of those skill sets won’t get you where you want to be.”
Introducing the Courageous Creator Program
I know it’s hard to do this all by yourself, so I’m here to help.
In this three-month program, I’ll teach you the essential six skills sets to be your confident self. Just knowing is not enough. So I go beyond teaching skills to help you practice those skills so they become second nature.
I help you understand yourself, learn specific scientifically supported skills to improve, build pragmatic skills, give you doable practice elements, and then we practice together in a supportive and safe atmosphere so you can incorporate these skills into your daily life.
The Six Essential Action Skill Sets to Break Free and Thrive as a Creative
To live the creative life you dream of, you don’t just need inspiration, you need action. These six skill sets are the foundation of The Courageous Creator program. Each one helps you break free from anxiety, build confidence, and create with clarity and courage.
🎯 1. Taking Action on Your Purpose
Connect deeply with what matters most to you. Discover your unique artistic vision - whether you're just starting out or you're years into your creative journey—and take aligned, purposeful action that reflects your authentic voice. Purpose fuels momentum.
💡 2. The Creative Mindset: Think Bold, Create Fearless
Confidence doesn’t just happen. It’s built from the inside out.
Learn powerful mindset skills to quiet your inner critic, manage negative self-talk, and cultivate a strong, optimistic, and resilient mindset. This is how you take the right action at the right time.
🤝 3. Building Social Support for Your Creativity
Creative success isn’t a solo act. You’ll learn how to identify the emotional support you need, let go of judgmental or critical influences, and build a personal team of people who truly uplift and encourage your creative growth.
🧠 4. Mind Muscle: Training Focus Like a Gym for Your Brain
A creative mind is a powerful tool—but it needs training. Develop laser-sharp focus so you can stay present with your work, block distractions, and make meaningful progress. This mental strength boosts both your creative output and your confidence.
🧘♂️ 5. The Creative Body: Fueling Energy, Flow, and Focus
Confidence isn’t just mental, it’s physical. Learn science-backed tools to calm your nervous system, manage anxiety symptoms, and tap into your natural energy and flow. Sleep better, feel better, create more freely.
🚀 6. Beyond Fear: The Bold Actions of a Resilient Creative
Knowledge isn’t enough. Confidence is built in action. That’s why you’ll practice what you learn—in real time. With expert support, you’ll face your fears, build your confidence, and learn how to keep showing up, even when anxiety tries to pull you back.

Coaching That Feels Supportive, Safe, and Real
Each week, you’ll be invited to join a live, one-hour group coaching session on Zoom, led by Dr. Bob. These sessions are a supportive space—where you’re not just learning, but also connecting with others who get it.
You’ll have the chance to submit your questions in advance, so you can get the guidance you need without feeling on the spot. And if you feel ready, you’re welcome to ask spontaneous questions or join the conversation live during the session.
We keep these gatherings grounded, encouraging, and honest—because growth happens when we feel safe enough to be real.
Every session is recorded and available to all students, so even if you can’t make it live, you won’t miss a thing.
This is where the course comes to life—through shared experiences, compassionate guidance, and a community of creatives learning to move through fear, together.

Hi! I’m Dr. Bob 👋
That’s me in my studio, where I’ve had to learn how to successfully manage creative anxiety.
Even though I was a Psychologist for many years, I suffered from creative anxiety and low artistic confidence.
I successfully learned how to defeat this anxiety, build my artistic confidence, and get busy with my artistic practice. Now I’m happy, enjoying my artistic journey, selling work, and building my community of practice.
But, I’ve seen so many creatives like you (authors, artists, and musicians) suffer from low confidence and artistic anxiety that has stymied their practice and left them feeling unfulfilled. Just like I used to be.
My goal, in creating this course and the coaching, is to help people build their artistic confidence FAST, using evidence-based, effective techniques in a fun, supportive environment.
Yes, you can do it just like me. Not only do I bring the personal experience of overcoming this problem but I also bring scientific evidence-based knowledge and tools for you to use. All done with some humour and support.
Simply, I want you to feel the freedom to manage the distractions of self criticism, the lack of focus that anxiety brings, build a strong artistic identify, and get your work out into the world,
Bob Acton, Ph.D.

You mention competence. How do I get better at my artistic activity? If I’m an author, for example, can you help me be a better writer? No. This course will help you learn the skills of building confidence but if you need help learning some specific technical skills, you’ll need to seek out that knowledge with a mentor or classes specific to your area.
Is this therapy? No. Therapy aims to address mental health concerns and promote well-being through a structured, therapeutic relationship with a health professional, while an online course provides educational content and skills development and support without therapeutic intervention. Dr. Bob is retired from his profession, and is no longer a registered health professional.
What happens when this course ends? You can access all the material whenever you need to. Your membership gives you lifetime access.
Do I have to pay all the cost up-front? No. You can pay in two instalments with no extra administrative fee
Can I get my money back? Yes. If you’ve put effort into the course and you still haven’t seen improvement, then, after a conversation with us, we will refund your money (less a small admin fee to cover costs).
Is this course tax-deductible? Yes. We aren’t tax experts, so you should really consult with a tax expert, but most tax jurisdictions allow you to expense an activity, like a course, if you doing the activity ultimately to help you earn income. And most jurisdictions allow you to do this for a period of time before you earn money, if your intention is to earn income like selling art, books, or playing music for money.
What is the culture? The culture we create is a supportive, helpful one. We need to help build each other up, strengthen our skills, and pat each other on the back when they take action to build confidence. Above all, this is a place to learn, find support, get feedback, and feel inspired. I'd encourage you to post questions big or small and to offer feedback to your peers in a helpful, constructive way.
Still not sure? Here’s a little questionnaire to help you know if the course is right for you. Mini-Self-Assessment
